A new vote or a paper recount may be needed in New York’s 23rd Congressional District, ALG President Bill Wilson said today, citing erroneous computerized voting machines.
“There is a real question on the integrity of the election,” said Wilson. “Litigation to overturn the results and force a new vote or a full paper recount is a real possibility. There appears to be a substantive equal protection claim here.”
According to the Gouverneur Times, a computer virus could have skewed the results in the entire special election Bill Owens was thought to have won: “The computerized voting machines used by many voters in the 23rd district had a computer virus - tainting the results, not just from those machines known to have been infected, but casting doubt on the accuracy of counts retrieved from any of the machines.”
According to the story, “At least one County official thus far has raised concern that it's possible that ALL of the machines used in the NY-23 election had the 'virus' but only a few malfunctioned as a result. The counts from any district that used the ImageCast machines are suspect due to ‘the virus’ discovered in Hamilton County, last-minute ‘reprogramming’ by Dominion workers, and security flaws in the systems themselves. A manual paper-ballot recount of the vote could resolve computer vote accuracy questions.”
“A paper recount could help, but if it doesn’t, they would need a whole new vote,” Wilson concluded.

are we supposed to be suprised? Go to on site voting, strong ID, paper punch - damn the torpedoes and the chads, and a count done by by 5 before being put in a lock box for validation if required. Local reports by computer but if it takes an extra half day - - why do we need immediate results instead of honest results?

Perhaps Republicans and Democrats can now work on a clean tamper proof verifiable ballot system that nobody would challenge. There would certainly be tremendous support from the Democratic side to real reform.
A thumbprint reader would be proof of single voting and a database of thumbprints would keep those not eligible from voting. Since almost everyone has a thumb it would get around special cards that may or may not be legit and too costly for many. written by replica watches, January 05, 2010
